A TEENAGER was arrested for stealing petrol and crashing a stolen car after he was spotted acting suspiciously at a hospital.

The 19-year-old was arrested by Brierley Hill police after they checked into him and discovered he had crashed a stolen car after bilking petrol.

He had allegedly stolen the petrol from a service station on Sedgley Road, Tipton and smashed up the stolen car.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We arrested a man yesterday (Monday March 4) following a report that a man had made off without paying for fuel from a service station just after 10.15pm.

"The 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making off without payment.

"He was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle in connection with a car that was reported stolen from a property on Watermeadow Drive, Walsall just after 10pm on Monday 26 February 26.

"He has been released on bail with conditions while our investigations continue."

Brierley Hill police had tweeted about the incident: "We saw male acting sus at the hospital.

"After enquiries with hospital staff we found he was involved in an RTC.

"After very quick CCTV enquiries, it was the male who bilked petrol, then made off 4 hours prior, crashing a stolen car."
