BOSSES at a Stourbridge car repair and tyre centre hit by fire overnight have said they expect to be closed for up to three days.

A large fire broke out at Chemix Autocentre Stourbridge – Team Protyre last night (Tuesday March 19) just after 9pm.

More than 40 firefighters were deployed to tackle the flames and they eventually left the scene at 11.35pm.

West Midlands Fire Service said the garage building had been “significantly affected by fire and smoke” following the incident which saw residents evacuated and the main A491 closed while fire crews worked at the scene.

A spokesperson for Chemix Autocentre Stourbridge – Team Protyre, which is part of the Micheldever Group, said the Audnam autocentre had “suffered some damage” and it would likely be closed for up to three days.

They added: “We are fortunate in having a number of nearby Protyre autocare centres, and we are directing customers to either Protyre Halesowen or Protyre Wednesfield.

“All customers who had booked an MOT or service or other work at our Stourbridge centre are being contacted by us and redirected to one of these nearby Protyre autocare centres.

“We have redirected telephone lines into Chemix Stourbridge and updated our website with the same information.”

The company has stressed it remains “very much open for business” and keen to serve customers.
