JON Higgins admits any points from Dudley Kingswinford’s next five games will be a bonus.
The RFU fixture computer has thrown up a brutal January for the Heathbrook side, as they face five of the top-seven in National Two North, starting with this Saturday’s tip to Leicester Lions.
Joint-head coach Higgins is all too aware DK’s 11-point buffer over the bottom three could quickly be eroded.
He said: “No doubt we have been handed a very tough January.
“We have already anything we get out of these games will be a bit of a bonus.
“It’s not inconceivable for us to be stuck here in February with no more points on the board.”
Despite anticipating a tough few weeks, Higgins remains confident his side can stay up and believes five more wins should be enough.
He added: “It might get a little bit tight but we then have a run of games against teams in the lower half of the table.
“A few of them are at our place, including Huddersfield and Westoe.
“I’m confident we can stay up. I think we need five more wins and if we can keep picking up bonus points here and there it should be enough.
“Of course, it all depends on what the sides at the bottom of the table do.
“If they start winning, things could change.”
Like everyone else in the league, DK had no joy pre-Christmas when they faced rivals and league leaders Stourbridge, losing 29-7.
But Higgins saw plenty of positives, particularly in the second-half performance.
He said: “We got our hands on the ball a bit more and caused them a few more problems and probably got a deserved try at the end.
“We knew that was needed as it would be a hefty score, that’s what we spoke about beforehand.
“We dug in and managed to keep them out.
“We knew in the second-half once we got the ball we could cause them a few problems.”
