A new Dudley town centre car park has opened ahead of schedule today (November 14), in time for festive shopping.
The new 90 space car park on Tower Street will now offer short stay parking for people visiting the town.
Work on the car park, which is set to benefit visitors and businesses, began in the summer following the demolition of the Mahoe Centre It is the latest in a series of new spaces being created in the town. The council recently opened 21 new short stay spaces in Dudley, including a 12 space car park in New Mill Street and 9 new spaces on Stone Street.
Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “The new Tower Street car park is in a great central location for people visiting the town and we’re really pleased that we have been able to open it earlier than planned, in plenty of time for the Christmas rush. We are confident that creating more than 100 new spaces will have a long term, positive impact for traders and businesses in the town.
“We’re pleased that people using the car park to visit the town to pick up Christmas essentials, will also be able to park for free on December 10, 17 and 24 as part of the council’s free Christmas parking offer.”
The car park has significantly improved the street scene of Tower Street and opened up views to Baylie’s Hall and Dudley Castle.
The work forms part of the exciting multi-million pound investment and regeneration of Dudley town centre.
