A DUDLEY drunk threw a glass into the face of an innocent man before repeatedly punching him.
"What you did was disgraceful and wicked," Judge Michael Challinor told Kieran Perry after hearing he also knocked over a police officer as he tried to avoid being arrested.
The victim suffered a gashed forehead when he was struck by the glass and he was now scarred for life, Simon Hanns, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court.
He said the man had been looking at his mobile phone in The Pitch Sports Bar & Grill in Walsall during the early hours of New Year's Day when he suddenly felt a pain as he was struck by the flying glass.
Mr Hanns said the man dropped his phone and when he bent down to pick it up he was punched several times by 25-year-old Perry.
"It is clear he did nothing at all to provoke the attack in any shape or form," added Mr Hanns who said the victim had been badly affected by the incident.
Stephen Cadwaladr, defending Perry, said he accepted his behaviour had been totally unacceptable, adding: "He was drunk and it was the drink that played an enormous part in his actions."
The court was told that after police were called out to the Bridge Street bar, Perry knocked over one officer as the man tried to detain him.
Perry, of St John's Road, pleaded guilty to wounding, affray and assault and the Judge told him the only appropriate sentence was one of immediate custody as he sentenced him to 18 months.
