RESIDENTS in Lower Gornal have expressed their shock and fear after a 34-year-old man was stabbed to death last night.
A police investigation is underway after a man was stabbed to death following reports of a van being rammed into a Chinese takeaway and two men being chased by a group carrying weapons on Central Drive.
One of the men got away but the other man was found critically injured having suffered stab wounds, police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The community is today coming to terms with what happened, with one resident describing last night’s scene as like ‘hell’.
The woman, who does not wish to be named, said: “The van came and rammed it [the takeaway].
“People were running.
“It was hell. It has never happened here before.”
She added: “We don’t feel safe. It’s terrible.”
Another resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “I have been here for 36 years and I have never seen anything like it.”
Another Central Drive resident added: “It was going to happen sooner or later.
“We only ever see police here when something happens.”
Three men aged 32, 36 and 41 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and they remain in police custody for questioning.
West Midlands Police is appealing for witnesses, or anyone with any information about the attack, to contact them.
