WALL Heath Tennis Club raised more than £1,000 in support of a woman's intrepid challenge to play 200,000 tennis shots across 30 days to raise money for charity.

Robyn Moore set herself the goal to raise funds for Bright Ideas for Tennis by playing thousands of shots at tennis clubs across the country.

Wall Heath Tennis Club was one of a specially selected group of clubs chosen across the country to host Robyn as she took on the challenge, which started back on June 1 at her home club in Hampshire.

The Dudley-borough based club raised £1,231 in total, with the funds going towards the charity's 'I Play 30' programme, which already provides free tennis sessions for people with learning, sensory and physical disabilities. With the extra funds, the programme will include sessions for mental health groups as well as support for ex-service personnel suffering from PTSD and amputees in their rehabilitation.

Adrian Hyde, club chairman, said: "It was a privilege to welcome Robyn and the team as they embarked on their journey to raise awareness and much needed funds to help continue the wonderful work of Bright Ideas for Tennis.

"Despite being a small club, we were blown away by the support given from the local community and we couldn't be prouder of how much money they helped to raise.

"Lots of people helped to make Robyn's day in Wall Heath a success including the young people from local schools who did a fantastic job making sure Robyn was fed balls continually as well as the many friends and members of the club who worked so hard to make the day a success, particularly Lorna Harris who was instrumental in the event taking place and the amount raised.

"We wish Robyn all the very best in the final week of the challenge and we're sure she'll have earned a well deserved rest on July 1."
