A GROUP set up to help preserve under-threat Corbett Meadow from development has called off its public meeting.
The Save Corbett Meadow Action Group had organised a meeting for Wednesday November 27 at Stourbridge Football Club to fight plans to build up to 136 homes on the untouched site which is a haven for wildlife.
Shortly after a consultation with the community, however, developers Countryside Properties withdrew their interest in the site, which is owned by the NHS, after realising the extent of public opposition to any development.
The action group has therefore called off its public meeting but campaign spokesman Helen Cook, from Amblecote History Society, said: "As a group we should not be complacent - a battle has been won but it is probable that another potential developer may express an interest in the site in the near future and the threat of residential development has certainly not gone away."
She stressed the "group remains firmly committed to fighting any future prospective developers" and she said a meeting would take place in the future to keep residents up to date on efforts to preserve the site which has been used for the grazing of horses and cattle for almost 40 years.
