A ROWLEY Regis restaurant has cooked up thousands of free meals for NHS staff on the frontline of the battle against Covid-19.
The Fourways has been delivering meals to staff at Russells Hall Hospital, Rowley Regis Hospital, Sandwell General Hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham Children's Hospital and district nurses amongst others.
Owner Amrik Saini has been funding all the meals out of his own pocket since the traditional Indian restaurant on Portway Hill closed temporarily on March 19.
The 42-year-old married father-of-two (pictured top right) and his brother Pindu Johal (pictured top left) - helped by a small band of five volunteers - are taking 150 meals to staff at Russells Hall Hospital every day.
They give out around 300 free meals a day in total and have been doing so for the last three weeks.
Amrik, who started the restaurant a decade ago, said: "We wanted to look after the NHS staff - they are doing such a great job.
"We have had a really positive response.
"The quality of our food and our hygiene is top notch.
"It's difficult financially at the moment - but it's the same for everyone."
The restaurant has the top hygiene rating - five stars - from Sandwell Council.
It had between eight and ten part and full-time staff who Amrik plans to re-employ when the coronavirus crisis restrictions are lifted.
