THIS year's Sheepwalks Shocker 10K race in Kinver has been cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.

The event, Kinver Rotary Club’s annual 10k run across the Enville estate which usually raises money for Dudley's Action Heart charity, is the latest event to have been cancelled by the fundraising club.

The COVID-19 crisis has already seen the annual seniors' party, an evening of Irish folk band music, a murder mystery weekend and a barn dance cancelled.

The annual ladies lunch has also been postponed, as has the most important event in the club’s calendar, the Charter Night.

Club president David Goring said: “The 10K run was scheduled for Sunday October 4 and while we all hope the current troubles will be over by then, an event of this size takes a lot of organising and that planning should start now. Our inability to hold face to face meetings makes that planning impossible, so we have reluctantly decided to cancel this year’s race.”

Meanwhile, the club is currently distributing donations from the record 2019 Christmas sleigh collection to charities and needy causes in the area.

Cheques for amounts ranging from £100 to £400 are being posted to recipients who, it is hoped, will be up and running in the not too distant future - with the aid of additional funds provided thanks to the generosity of the people of Kinver, Enville, Wall Heath and Wollaston.
