A TEENAGER has been taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries on the M5 motorway near Oldbury this morning (Wednesday August 5).
The teen, who was said to have been on foot, was hit by several cars between junction 3 at Halesowen and junction 2 (the Oldbury interchange) at around 11.15am, according to police.
Paramedics from the Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the scene and were backed up by an ambulance, the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, which had a doctor on board.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said the boy suffered "serious injuries" and he added: "He was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital; the doctor from the air ambulance travelled with the boy to hospital.
“There were no other patients.”
The M5 was closed in both directions between junctions 2 and 3 following the incident, which happened just before junction 2, but all lanes have since reopened.
Police said enquiries about how the boy ended up on the motorway were at an early stage.
