KEEPERS at Dudley Zoo and Castle have announced the birth of two female Bactrian camels.
The baby calves, named Jubilee and Queenie, were born over the last fortnight and are both doing well.
The news follow the births of a baby giant anteater, Linne’s two-toed sloth, black swan cygnets, Egyptian fruit bats, red tailed green rat snakes and reindeer calves, as well as the arrival of three-year-old wolverine, Helga and seven sun conures.
Many of the new additions are a first in the zoo’s 85-years which will be celebrated on Saturday May 7.
Zoo director Derek Grove, said: “We’re overjoyed that during such a milestone anniversary year, we’re welcoming so many wonderful new arrivals for visitors to spot.
“We hope people will join our celebrations on Saturday as we mark the zoo’s past, present and future.”
Visitors can view an exhibition of archive photographs and zoo memorabilia in the castle, where there’ll be a giant birthday card to sign. There’ll also be children’s entertainers, costumed characters, face-painting, small critters to meet and greet, plus an anniversary trail.
The zoo will also be hosting open-air cinema events to coincide with the anniversary celebrations, with Pretty Woman showing on Friday (May 6) and Pulp Fiction on Saturday (May 7).
Last-minute tickets are available from the zoo’s website or by calling 01384 215313.
