THE sale of a piece of sporting memorabilia has added a last-minute boost to the fundraising efforts of a brave Brierley Hill cook who is preparing to take to the skies for a charity wing walk.
Lynn Wilkes is set to undertake the high-flying challenge over Cirencester, Gloucestershire, on Friday May 20 to raise funds for blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan.
The 54-year-old from Withymoor has dreamed of ticking the challenge off her bucket list for some years and she’s now smashed her fundraising target of £2,000 for the charity which has helped her husband Simon, who has a rare form of blood cancer Myelodysplastic Syndromes.
The online auction of a boxing glove signed by champion British boxer Anthony Joshua and donated by Quarry Bank based auctioneer Nick Smith raised £200 for the cause to help Lynn hit her target.
Donations can still be made on the JustGiving website.
As well as raising vital funds for the charity, the wing walk with the AeroSuperBatics wing walking team will be held in memory of Lynn and Simon’s late son Olly who passed away in April 2017, aged just 22.
The couple have been holding annual fundraising events remembering Olly and raising cash and awareness for causes including the Anthony Nolan charity which will be taking swabs to help find potential blood donors at the Olly Wilkes Memorial Football Tournament 2022 at Thorns Collegiate Academy on Saturday June 25.
