BUMPER crowds flocked into Sedgley on Thursday to witness the Commonwealth Games cycling time trial which passed through the town centre.
Spectators travelled from as far afield as Wales to witness the spectacular as riders pedalled their way through Sedgley and then around Gornal and Coseley before making their way back to headquarters West Park in Wolverhampton.
Wetherspoons pub The Clifton proved to be one of the focal centres and pub manager Ryan Underhill claimed: "I don't think Sedgley has seen anything quite like it.
"The whole atmosphere was absolutely amazing and our sales alone went completely through the roof.
"We did record sales for food, not only for the day but the week as well.
"The Clifton was one of the few places where spectators could see the cyclists pass twice and I think that was one of the reasons why we were able to attract so many people. It seemed to be the 'go-to place'.
"We had some spectators who came all the way from Newport in South Wales to see the event.
"What made the event even better was the fact there were lots of families and children who came out to watch and that helped create a real sense of community.
"It was a great day out for Sedgley and it was simply amazing just to be there.
"It made for a perfect day!
