IT’S been a busy first few days for Dudley Council’s new highways boss – with snow causing disruption on the roads.
Councillor Damian Corfield, ward councillor for Netherton, Woodside and St Andrews, has been promoted to cabinet member responsible for highways and the environment – following the departure of Councillor Shaz Saleem from the cabinet.
Cllr Corfield, who is a qualified lorry driver with more than 30 years’ experience on the roads, has hit the ground running in his new top role – joining the council’s gritting team on an early morning run as snow fell for a second day on Friday March 10.
He said: “I have the utmost respect for these drivers who go out in horrible conditions to treat the borough’s roads. While many people are tucked up in bed, they are out in freezing, hazardous conditions.”
Crews worked round the clock to treat more than 300 miles of the borough’s roads as temperatures plummeted and snow fell.
