AN investigation is underway to establish the cause of the huge factory fire on Peartree Lane yesterday.
The incident was closed at 10pm last night (Tuesday June 6) and West Midlands Fire Service is now working to find out what caused it.
Smoke could be seen billowing into the air from miles and eight surrounding businesses were evacuated, as more than 50 firefighters fought the flames.
Residents living nearby were told to keep their doors and windows closed as the fire, believed to be at derelict meat packing firm Packers of E.C Bacon, sent up plumes of black smoke.
The fire started around 1pm with the entire length of the road closed off by police. It was reopened around 7pm last night.
A hydraulic platform was used as the fire was brought under control, with a drone used to help identify hotspots.
No-one was hurt in the fire and the amount of firefighters at the scene was scaled down at 6pm to four fire engines.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Our fire investigation team have been working to identify a cause, but one has not been confirmed as yet."
