TRADERS, councillors and people in the community have welcomed the completion of new public toilets in Brierley Hill.

The new facilities, located on Little Cottage Street, have received a full internal refit, external makeover and are due to open to the public in the early part of October after being closed for some 10 years.

Tim Sunter, chairperson of the Brierley Hill Community Forum, said: "It has been a long-standing bone of contention that the town hasn't had public accessible toilets, so this will come as a great relief to those who need a quick visit when shopping in Brierley Hill.”

Brierley Hill ward councillor Adam Davies said: “Local people said they wanted to see public toilets back in the town – so, working with the Community Forum and others, we made the case for the necessary funding and are really pleased to see the work now complete.”

Fellow Brierley Hill councillor Wayne Little added: “As well as separate male and female facilities, there is a separate accessible WC for those who need the space.

"As the father of a youngster who has disabilities, I know how much of a difference that can make and I hope shoppers, young and old, will benefit from having it.”

The toilets have been refurbished as part of Dudley Council’s multimillion-pound regeneration programme in the town.
