A WEATHER warning for wind due to Storm Isha has now been issued across the West Midlands, with Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen affected.

There was a yellow weather warning for wind across the country today (Sunday January 21) but the Met Office has upgraded it to the higher amber warning.

The Met Office says wind speeds of 50 to 60mph are expected with a risk the speeds could get up to 80mph - which poses a risk to life.

The Met Office says: "Storm Isha will bring a spell of very strong winds during Sunday evening and into Monday.

"Disruption to travel and utilities is likely.

"There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

"Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

"Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected.

"Some roads and bridges likely to close.

"Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties."

The warning comes into force from 6pm tonight and is expected to be lifted at 6am on Monday morning.

The Met Office added it is "relatively rare" for the whole of the country to be affected by storm warnings.
