ARMED forces veterans have been called to receive badges and medals from the Mayor of Dudley.

The presentation is part of this year’s Armed Forces Day event organised by Dudley Council and supported by SWG Construction, Pegasus, and SF Harrison Roofing.

The event will be held on Sunday June 30 at Himley Hall and Park, and run from 11am to 4pm with military displays, dance lessons, a vintage fair and refreshments.

One of the main highlights of the day will be when Councillor Hilary Bills, the Mayor of Dudley, presents former and current armed forces personnel with their HM Armed Forces Badges.

People have been encouraged to register to be presented with their badge, so they can be added in the day's running order.

Cllr Bills said: "It is a privilege to meet with veterans and present them with their badges and medals as one of their first civic engagements each year.

"It’s important we take time to honour and reflect on the efforts and sacrifice of men and women who have served or continue to serve in our armed forces.

"Armed Forces Day gives us the opportunity to do just that, as well as learn more about the work of the services and enjoy entertainment for all ages."

Shaun Humphries of SWG Construction, added: "As a construction firm involved with several major projects across the area, we are delighted to support Armed Forces Day with Dudley Council.

"People who think they are entitled to one of the HM Armed Forces Veterans Badges should apply online or by calling 0800 085 3600."

It should be noted that veterans need to have applied for and received their badge before contacting the council in order to have them presented on the day.
