100 up-and-coming dancers will get the chance to perform alongside professionals for a three-night run of a top production.

English Youth Ballet (EYB) has announced auditions will take place at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Monday, June 17 for its haunting production of Giselle.

The dancers, aged from eight to 18, will train and rehearse with international professional principal dancers before performing at the theatre from September 6-7.

EYB is one of the UK’s largest ballet companies, in its 26th year, and is renowned for its large-scale classical ballets.

Led by director Janet Lewis MBE, EYB is a national touring ballet company.

Lewis had an illustrious career with the Royal Ballet Company and London Festival Ballet, where she performed with ballet greats such as Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev.

She said: "The EYB audition is an experience in itself.

"EYB is all about performance experience and this starts at the audition as the dancers are given a regular ballet class with parents and family encouraged to watch.

"We are looking for young dancers of all abilities who can show the audience how much they enjoy their dancing."

The audition will be staged like a regular ballet class.

Dancers will be informed on the day if they have been successful.

It's suggested that dancers register for the audition in advance but registrations can also be made on the day provided they arrive 30 minutes early.

The audition fee is £20.

Parents are encouraged to watch the auditions from the auditorium.

The first audition for dancers aged from eight to 11 will be from 4.30pm to 6.15pm, and the second audition for performers aged from 12 to 18 will be from 6.45pm to 8.30pm.
