BIRMINGHAM New Road in Dudley will be closed to traffic for a few days while vital bridge works take place as part of the Metro extension project.

The busy road will closed from the junction of the A4037 Tipton Road to the junction of the A461 Birmingham New Road from 00.01 on Friday June 14 to 11.59 on Monday June 17.

All traffic will be diverted via: Tipton Road, Birmingham Road, Sedgley Road West, Park Lane West, Sedgley Road East and Dudley Port.

Highways chiefs have ordered the closure to enable bridge deck installation works to take place safely as the new Hanson’s Ale bridge is installed.

The bridge works are needed as part of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension project.

Further work will also take place on the Birmingham New Road between 10pm on Friday June 21 to 5am on Monday June 24. The southbound carriageway will remain open, but the northbound side will be closed.
