A Black Country DJ has been added to the Dudley Pride line-up after winning a competition.

Dennis Cohoone, who lives in Smethwick and is a youth outreach worker, wowed judges with a 15-minute house music set.

Going by the name of Mr Denco, the 51-year-old has played in clubs, bars and pubs across Birmingham and the Black Country for the last 26 years and has been chosen to play at the Dudley Council-led pride event on Saturday July 20.

Baga Chipz MBE, star of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, will headline the Pride event with live vocals, comedy and dazzling costumes.

Stone Street Square will have a stage and marquee from 1 to 8pm with a line-up of entertainment throughout the afternoon including Xfactor finalist Georgia Burgess and Birmingham’s Rainbow Voices Choir, Word of Mouth DJ Stuart Ojelay, drag Queen Trixie Lee and more.

Dennis Cohoone said: “I am so excited to have won this competition, I played at Birmingham Pride many years ago and was thrilled when I saw the opportunity to compete for a place to play at Dudley Pride this summer.

“I have a real passion for music and love to play a mixture of house, RnB and reggae and I am now looking forward to sharing my favourite sounds and tracks.”

Councillor Hilary Bills, Mayor of Dudley, said: “Pride is all about bringing people together to celebrate love, and I’m thrilled we will have this fantastic local DJ joining the lineup.

“Mr Denco really impressed with his action-packed set and the judges felt he was a natural choice for our first outdoor Dudley Pride.”

Dudley Pride will have road closures in place for Tower Street and Stone Street from the junction with Priory Street and up to the junction at Union Street.
