PEOPLE in Kingswinford are being asked for their views on a plan for a new independent retirement living facility.
Churchill Living is preparing a planning application for the proposed development in the High Street and is asking residents for feedback.
The proposal aims to redevelop the old Kingswinford Youth Centre, which has been empty since 2014, with the creation of 49 one and two-bedroom retirement apartments for locals over 60.
The development aims to offer apartment owners the option to maintain their freedom and independence as they get older while enjoying the safety, support and social life that comes with being part of a retirement living community.
Set in landscaped grounds, it would include a 24-hour Careline system, a sociable owners’ lounge, a lodge manager and a guest suite for visiting friends and family.
A spokesperson for Churchill Living said: “Our plans to regenerate this site will help to reduce the need for greenfield development to meet the urgent demand for new homes locally.
"Retirement housing is shown to be the most effective form of residential development for generating local economic growth, supporting local jobs, and increasing high street spend as it brings regular shoppers closer to the town centre.
"As we prepare to submit a formal planning application, we are keen to gather feedback and give local people the opportunity to have their say on these plans.”
People can view and have their say on the plans up until Sunday July 21 online at www.consultwithyou.co.uk/churchill-living/kingswinford
The development aims to offer older people in Kingswinford chance to downsize which would help to release larger properties back onto the market for families and give first-time buyers chance to get onto the property ladder.
The plan also includes relocating an existing play area - with a new play park plus a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) proposed to be provided on the recreation space to the rear of Kingswinford Community Centre.
