A NEW woodland play area in a prestigious park is now officially open just in time for the school holidays.

Dudley Council has unveiled its brand-new play area at Himley Hall and Park after a £500,000 investment.

It's located near the former tennis courts and pavilion to the rear left side of the hall.

It features a large wooden play tower, including a spiral slide, rotating carousels, zip line, seesaws, rocking horses, and several swings.

The popular dinosaur and princess and pirate themed trails at the park will also return from Monday July 22.

There’s also the fairy 50 activity where children follow coordinates on a map in the search for 50 hidden fairy doors. This activity is available all year round.

Activity sheets for the activities will be available from the Coffee Lounge in the main hall.

Councillor Phil Atkins, cabinet member for corporate strategy, said: “The new play area is another jewel in Himley’s crown, and I am so pleased we’re able to open it ahead of the school holidays, which are just around the corner.

“The new play area is sympathetic to its leafy woodland setting and offers the perfect space for children to play and explore within the beautiful park.

“Himley already offers so much to visitors all year round, from beautiful walks in the grounds and woodland, to the perfect cuppa in the coffee lounge, school holiday activities, amazing outdoor events, exhibitions in the hall and so much more.

“With the addition of the new play area, it really is a fantastic place to spend the day and we look forward to welcoming people this summer.”

The installation of the play area follows a successful public consultation in 2021 and planning permission from South Staffordshire Council, whose boundaries cover the park.

The coffee lounge is open every day from 9.30am to 4pm and offers a range of refreshments, including hot and cold drinks, light lunches, and sweet treats.
