POLICE seized more than 800 cannabis plants after uncovering a hidden operation in the basement of an old restaurant. 

The former Cellar restaurant on Market Place in Alcester was visited by PC Rob Davies on Saturday (July 20) after he received a tip off. 

Most of the plants inside were near the point of being ready to harvest. 

A spokesperson for Alcester Police said: "This past Saturday, July 20, our local heroes in blue received a tip-off from a vigilant member of the community about a suspicious situation near Market Place, Alcester. 

"PC Davies sprang into action, investigating the location thoroughly. 

"What did he find? A massive cannabis grow operation hidden in a basement. To everyone's amazement, a staggering 810 plants were seized.

"A big shout-out to the public for their keen eyes and to our dedicated officer his swift and effective response. 

"The investigation is ongoing, but this is a significant step in keeping our community safe and drug-free. 

"If you have any information regarding this cannabis grow, please call 101 and quote incident 149 of 20/07/2024".
