FAMILIES enjoyed a fun time at the pictures as Reel Cinema Quinton celebrated a milestone anniversary.
The cinema on Hagley Road West marked its 85th birthday on August 7, and to mark the big birthday staff donned fancy dress and movie tickets were slashed to £3.99 all day on Saturday August 10 and Sunday August 11.
General manager Adam Hemming transformed into Marvel Comics superhero Deadpool and posed for selfies with young movie-goers, and retail area operations manager Uday Goswami stopped by to celebrate the milestone.
Money was also coined in for national deaf charity RNID during the weekend of festivities through the sale of raffle tickets, with £135 raised for the charity.
General manager Adam Hemming said: “It was lovely celebrating the 85th birthday, we managed to raise £135 for RNID too.
“It was a very busy event over the weekend and many people enjoyed the fact that staff had participated too.
“The children who visited loved having their pictures taken with Deadpool too.”
The cinema first opened its doors in 1939 just before the outbreak of World War II which brought with it an order for cinemas to close.
The art deco venue, however, has stood the test of time and over the years it has been known as the Danilo, Essoldo, Quinton Classic, Cannon Cinema, ABC, Odeon and Reel.
Mr Hemming said the popular picture house has "been a big part of the community for the last 85 years" and "it has been able to stand the test of time".
