A PREMISES licence has been granted for a new coffee lounge and micro bar in Amblecote.

Planning permission was granted in August for a change of use of the former Memory Lane Antiques shop in Brettell Lane which is to be transformed into a new venue called The Glass Blower.

The ground floor of the former shop, which has been vacant since 2020, will be turned into a coffee lounge/micro bar with a patio and garden area outside.

Mitchell Bolton, landlord of the Hare & Hounds in Wollescote, is the driving force behind the new venture which has now been granted a premises licence to sell alcohol.

No objections were received, Dudley Council confirmed, and the application was approved by the local authority’s licensing department on September 11.

The proposed opening hours are: 9.30am to 9.30pm Sunday to Wednesday and 9.30am to 11pm Thursdays to Saturdays.

Mitchell said he’s been “absolutely flabbergasted” at the support he’s received for the new venture, which has been given its name as a tribute to the area’s glass heritage.

He said he was excited to be bringing a much-needed coffee shop to Amblecote, which will serve up cakes, sandwiches and paninis, and an additional bar specialising in craft beers to add to the popular Amblecote run.

No opening date has been confirmed yet although Mitchell has said he is aiming for mid to late November. His latest post on Facebook, however, said there’s “still a lot to be done and signed off” and he told the News: “Everything’s going to plan but it’s taking a lot longer than we ever anticipated.”

He added that the venture is set to create up to seven new full and part-time jobs.
