BARRATT Homes has named its newest development Anvil Place in a nod to Netherton’s history and links to the Titanic.
The West Midlands-based developer is building a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes in Marriott Road.
The development has been named in commemoration of N Hingley & Sons Ltd, which manufactured anvils, chains and anchors including the ill-fated RMS Titanic’s huge anchor.
The anchor was famously hauled through Netherton on its journey to be affixed to the famous liner that sank in April 1912.
Honouring the town’s heritage and link to the sunken ship, a replica anchor stands in Northfield Road, not far from the forthcoming development.
Adrian Evans, managing director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “It’s important to remember and honour the history in the areas in which we build.
“N Hingley & Sons Ltd was one of the leading ironworks companies at the time, and we’re proud to have been able to honour this achievement.”
