A GUN and Class A drugs were seized after police stopped a car in Rowley Regis.

A man who fled the vehicle was arrested by officers following a foot chase.

The two officers who detained the man sustained injuries.

Traffic officers spotted a vehicle on October 9 which had failed to stop for officers a few days earlier.

The Audi was stopped in Beeches Road just after 11am but the driver ran off.

After a short foot chase, a man was detained nearby and two officers sustained injuries - which were not serious.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We found the handgun – and ammunition - in a bag nearby and after a search of the car we seized drugs and a quantity of cash.

"A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, having drugs with intent to supply and assaulting two officers. He remains in custody for questioning.

"We’re continuing to take drugs and guns off the streets as part of Operation Target".
