TWO people have been injured after groups of people reportedly launched fireworks at each other in Birmingham in the early hours of this morning.
West Midlands Police (WMP) were called to the area of Bagot Street and Staniforth Street to reports that groups of people were aiming fireworks at each other and neighbouring buildings.
They said that when they arrived at the scene, fireworks were also fired at officers trying to diffuse the situation.
A section 35 dispersal order had been implemented in the area, with West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) crews also being called a number of times.
A spokesperson for WMAS said: “We attended an incident involving fireworks on Staniforth Street in Birmingham just after 3.10am, sending an ambulance to the scene.
“A woman was treated for minor injuries before being given self-care advice and discharged at the scene.
“We then received a second call to the same location at around 3.55am and, again, send an ambulance to the scene.
“A woman was assessed by ambulance staff but did not require hospital treatment and was discharged at the scene.
In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “We will be taking action against anyone involved in public order offences or any other criminality that is reported to us.”
