An MP visited two schools to speak to students about the role of Parliament.
Sonia Kumar, MP for Dudley, marked UK Parliament Week by visiting Ellowes Hall School and Straits Primary School on Wednesday (November 27).
The visits aimed to provide students with an understanding of Parliament and how they can engage with democracy.
UK Parliament Week is an annual event designed to increase awareness of Parliament's work, with events occurring across the UK.
At Ellowes Hall School, Ms Kumar addressed students from years nine to 11, sharing her journey into politics, from her career as an NHS physiotherapist to her day-to-day experiences in Westminster and her ambitions as an MP.
This was followed by a Q&A session, where students explored issues ranging from the legislative process to the impact of politics on schools and communities.
Later in the day, Ms Kumar met with the School Council at Straits Primary School.
The pupils asked questions about her responsibilities as an MP, the realities of parliamentary debates, and her work supporting local schools and families.
This discussion emphasised the importance of involving young people in decision-making and empowering them to shape their futures.
Paul Freear, headteacher at Straits Primary School, praised the visit.
He said: "It was fantastic to have Sonia visit and to show her around our school.
"Our School Council thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to ask her questions and learn more about her role."
Ms Kumar said: "Engaging with young people is always a highlight of my role.
"Their curiosity and passion for understanding how our democracy works give me great hope for the future.
"It’s crucial to show young people that their voices matter and that Parliament is there to represent them."
