WHAT price put on life? I am disappointed at the poor turnout of residents of Ettymore Road and Ettymore Road West to be in the photograph for the Dudley News coverage of the problems of speeding.
I would like to point out to residents that this chance to show solidarity on this issue was missed.
I have spoken to Councillor David Caunt, who said he was told by Peter Vangearsdale that progress was being made.
But when I spoke to Mr Vangearsdale, I was told the roads will not be considered for traffic calming measures in the 08-09 budget as no safety schemes are being considered in the whole of North Dudley other than new pedestrian crossing at the junction of Netherby Road, Gospel End Road and new footpaths at Paradarn Close by Alden Coppice School in Sedgley.
Despite years of complaints to the council and police – who both admit there is a speeding problem – the issue is no further forward.
Several garden walls have been demolished on the roads by speeding traffic but they can be rebuilt, a life can not. I have passed all details on to North Dudley MP Ian Austin’s office.
In finishing, I ask all residents of Ettymore Road and Ettymore Road West, Netherby Road and Sedgley Hall Avenue to fight for safer roads and to remember that that first fatality could be a member of your family.
WA Rowley, Ettymore Road West, Dudley
