TWO young Dudley men who took part in a “mob” attack on a teenager on a bus have been sent into custody for a year.
Twenty-five-year-old Daniel Davis of Mytton Close, Kates Hill and 19-year-old Kieron Parker of Kirby Drive, Milking Bank were both part of a gang which approached a 16-year-old youth and his girlfriend, who were minding their own business on a bus.
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how in rapid succession the group piled on the teenager.
Judge William Davis QC told the offenders “This was gratuitous mob violence and you both played a vital part because you were part of that mob.
“It was the kind of behaviour that caused considerable concern to members of the public and only a jail sentence was justified.”
Davis and Parker both maintained they had not been responsible for any of the violence but they both joined in putting other passengers in fear.
Both offenders admitted affray while Davis admitted a further charge of theft.
Stephen Cadwaladr defending told the court there had been trouble in the past with Birmingham gangs coming to Dudley to pick on and rob young men.
He said the other members of the gang thought the teenager on the bus was a member of an opposing gang and added: “These two had been told about the earlier incidents and they behaved like sheep as they went along with the crowd”.
Parker was told he must serve his sentence in a Young Offenders Institution while Davis was sent to prison.
