SANDRA Bullock and Ryan Reynolds star in the latest Hollywood chick flick ‘The Proposal’.
Bullock plays Margaret Tate, a bossy executive editor-in-chief of a book publishing company in New York.
All of the staff, including her assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds), hate her.
But after learning she is being deported to Canada after her visa runs out, she forces Andrew to marry her.
When the government investigates the couple’s relationship, the inspector warns the pair that they will both undergo rigurous tests to prove their pending nuptuals are not a sham.
Undeterred Andrew decides to go ahead with the fake marriage, under the condition that he is promoted to the position of editor and his manuscript be published.
The couple are then forced to spend the weekend with his parents (Mary Steenburgen and Craig T. Nelson) in Alaska to attend the 90th birthday party of Andrew's grandmother (Betty White).
The family get together scenes are slightly reminiscent of ‘Meet the Parents’ particularly when Margaret finds herself in many comedic fish-out-of-water situations, including a funny situation with the family’s new puppy and an eagle.
And although the ice doesn’t quickly thaw in Alaska, Margaret’s hard exterior soon does, as she begins to genuinely care for Andrew and his family.
So of course the film finishes with a slightly predictable happy ending, but with plenty of laughs along the way.
Although not one of the best, this latest romantic comedy is certainly worth a watch, especially on a girls night out.
