THE next meeting of the Dudley Local History Society will be held on Thursday October 19 at 7.30pm at the Central Library.
Our speaker will be Dr Mike Jepson and his topic is Medical Aspects of the Lunar Society.
During the late 18th and early 19th century local scientists and industrialists met at intervals in one another's houses to exchange ideas on a wide variety of topics from scientific advances to the abolition of slavery.
They were called the Lunar Society because they met when there was a full moon to make it easier and safer to go home in the evening.
They included such people as Erasmus Darwin, grandfather of Charles, Sir Joseph Priestley, Matthew Boulton and Josiah Wedgewood, leading figures in the intellectual life of the time.
