STUART Wedge believes there are no weak links in Himley’s bowling attack after another commanding display.

The Stourbridge Road side recorded their second positive result on the bounce thanks to a 135-run win over West Bromwich Dartmouth last Saturday.

For the second week running, Himley put in a solid batting display to post 205-7 from 55 overs.

But the real buzz surrounds a bowling unit which once again was on fire, despite the continued absence of paceman Dan Smith, as the visitors were skittled for just 70.

Skipper Wedge and Nick Harrison took three wickets each, while Ashfak Hussain and Mike Jones took two apiece.

Wedge said: “We’ve been bowling well all season and it’s a solid unit.

“Having Nick come back into the side this week was obviously a bonus but we’ve got good strength in depth.

“There is no let up from either end.

“With some teams, batsmen can be patient and see off the opening bowlers but I don’t think you can do that with us, as the first change bowlers are just as strong.

“We’ve got great resources and at the moment with the form everyone is in, there is no weak link.”

The strength in depth was best demonstrated by Hussain, who bowled 10 of his 11 overs for maidens as he finished with figures of 2-2.

It followed a solid batting performance on a tricky pitch, with the returning Ben Smith (46) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (44 not out) making big contributions along with Nathan Round (46). Wedge also hit a quickfire 29 in the closing overs which included three sixes.

The skipper hopes his side can continue their good run when they travel to Wolverhampton for a derby clash this Saturday.

He added: “I was really pleased with the performance.

“Last week against Shrewsbury we couldn’t quite eke out the win but we made no mistake this time.

“Our batting has improved markedly and to get two decent scores back-to-back on a tricky wicket is really encouraging.

“When the guys at the top of the order put us in a good position it’s easier for guys like me to come in and play with freedom.”

There was plenty for Himley to celebrate on Sunday as they successfully navigated the opening round of the National Twenty20 competition thanks to wins over Wolverhampton and Halesowen.
