Fire crews have been tackling a large blaze at a block of flats in Kent.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called to the scene at Holborough Lakes, Snodland just before 7am on Saturday.

Residents were forced to evacuate the complex, and some of the flats were completely engulfed by flames.

Fifteen fire engines, two height vehicles and a water management unit were sent to bring the fire under control at the three storey building of 22 flats.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The property is managed by Berkeley Homes, and KFRS said it was working with it and the local authority to provide temporary accommodation for residents.

A spokesman for KFRS said crews were likely to be on the scene “for some time” and the road to the estate from the A228 junction remains closed.

They said that it is believed that everyone has been accounted for and there are no serious injuries.

A rest centre has been put in place for residents forced out of their homes and the British Red Cross has also sent a support vehicle.
